And, with the rare time off work, I should have enough time to be able to get the healing well under way before I have to get back to lugging heavy equipment. The doctor has the following weekend scheduled to remove my stitches! |

I am circumcised! I spent the afternoon from about 2:PM to about 5:PM in a hospital in the Canadian suburbs. The good Doctor clipped me at about 4:PM, after 2 hours or so of waiting and preparation.
I was done
under a local anaesthetic, which had begun to wear off just as the Gomco clamp was being
installed. (The doctor was being very careful and was taking his time in snipping the
frenelum.) The anaesthetic was the worst part of it for me. It was my own no-turning-back
point. When I was lying there waiting to feel the sting, the kid in me (the part that
fought back during vaccinations) wanted to run, but I reminded myself that it was what I
always wanted. The local seemed to take forever, especially since I'm a baby about
needles. But it really didn't hurt all that much. The test of the anaesthetic that I
received was a forcep clamping the frenulum. When I didn't cry out, two stitches were
applied there and frenelum was severed.
I felt my foreskin touching the bell of the Gomco clamp. I could actually feel the annealed copper wire that is used to tie the skin onto the Gomco`s bell pinching the skin down; it didn`t hurt but the awareness of it frightened me a bit. After that, the Doc applied the plate of the clamp. The Doc worked slowly and carefully. I was feeling no real pain, but understandably concerned that if I could feel the cold of the bell and the pinch of the plate, I'd be in agony when the foreskin was sliced off.. I felt the skin being pinched, and it hurt a little bit.
The Doc had a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face as I voiced my concerns, and cranked the nut of the Gomco clamp slowly tighter and tighter, until he was putting obvious effort into it. At once, the pinching feeling and cold bell of Gomco disappeared; I could no longer feel them. The Doc injected more anesthetic as we waited for the Gomco clamp to do its job (about 20 minutes to allow clotting and coaptation.) No doubt, as the clamp was tightened it crushed all of the nerve endings, causing my pain to cease even before the additional injection. He then ran the scalpel around the base of the Gomco plate, completely removing my foreskin. It was so surrealistic, I still have a bit of trouble believing it.,
Finally. I looked at the arm of the Gomco clamp and saw my foreskin sitting limp on the top of the arm, but it didn't bother me or excite me. I was relaxed as anyone could be expected to be under those conditions. He then released the bell, put in about 8 stitches ( I could feel them by that point, but they were no worse than the local anaesthetic going in earlier.) I was cauterized in one small bleeder on my frenulum before the Gomco clamp was applied. I don't think I lost more than a tablespoon of blood. Finally he was satisfied, and wrapped a tight bandage around my penis. It had taken about an hour and a half from start to finish! My foreskin ended up in a small bottle which the doctor kept. I hope it found a good home.
I bled a
little bit on the way back to my apartment, and once we got there changed the bandages
from a compression bandage to a softer gauze bandage.
It`s now been about 5 hours and the local anaesthetic is long since worn off. I`ve had a few instances where I`d look at the my hands or something and realized that these are the hands of a circumcised man- at which point I`d start to get hard... well, so far I`ve had several raging erections, but no pain or popped stitches. I can`t wait to take the bandages off and see how I`m healing up. I promise daily progress reports.
I feel great, it`s nowhere near as bad as I thought it`d be,. I`m really looking forward to enjoying my new state.
The circ itself high and tight, witht the Gomco clamp's trademark perfect circle. The Doc thinks that it'll be very good cosmetically. So do I- Ilike the shape of it, too. And even so soon post-operatively, there was very little bleeding and no visible swelling.
Circ-it! I can`t wait to try this thing out!

My circumcision is very neat and clean. I have no bleeding, just some oozing on my second bandage change. This is the end of the second day and I have some light bruising and some swelling. I have a healing itch, too. But, overall, the most uncomfortable part of the whole experience has been the partially shaved pubic hair. It's driving me nuts. I can't believe I'm getting off so easy; everyone (the Doc included) thought I'd be begging for ice-packs and painkillers. I don't know if I had any painkillers among the pills he gave me to calm down before the procedure, but I haven't taken anything since and I feel great!

It really doesn't hurt at all. I was dancing at an Ottawa nightclub less than
30 hours after it was done. Hell, half an hour after it was done, I was helping to load
equipment into a car. I was starting to regain sensation at that point.
Right now I'm wearing a pair of boxer shorts. I'm going to strip them off in a few minutes and have a shower, with the hot water streaming down my freshly circumcised dick. While erections cause no pain, I fear they will pull the wound open, especially without bandages to hold me togther.
As for bleeding, I've only bled a tablesppon or two, except of course the blood that was in the foreskin when it was removed. Most bleeding and oozing has occured from the frenelum, which is, of course, gone (The Doc didn't want to remove it at first, but whenI was lying there on the table, he said it was thick and short, and was probably best to be removed).
It all feels so surrealistic; it was no big deal whatsoever. I can't believe how little the pain has been. Every now and then I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. A quick look at the bandages on my penis or of the Gomco clamp- which still has a little bit of my blood dried onto it- sitting on my computer reminds me that it's for real and that I'm now circumised.
If you're even thinking about getting it done, go for it. The pain has been nothing. I can't wait to heal up and try this thing out!! This was an experience I will NEVER regret. But what an experience!
If it hadn't been for the support of the people on CIRCLIST and most of all the quiet physician who helped me achieve my dream of being circumcised- I'd still be intact. YUK! Thanks to all of you, especially those of you reporting on your own circs, for helping to give me the confidence to go through with what I knew was right for me.

Some Thoughts One Year After Adult Gomco Circumcision
At the first anniversary, I started to notice the scar, which is still pretty raised and pronounced, was gradually softening out. The brown line of the Gomco clamp is slowly being eroded into the rest of the tissue, leaving me with a flat scar marked only by a color change. If I close my eyes and run my finger up the shaft at that point, I can't even make out where the circumcision was performed. I can feel a really neat sensation, like my finger is toward the base of my penis then it suddenly jumps up to being right under the glans- that being the point of crossing of where all the missing tissue used to be.
During sex, the glans is massively stimulated by the "out" stroke, since the foreskin is no longer there to have it roll over the corona and mute the sensation that way. And the scar line still becomes a little tender during and after sex, but it's incredibly erogenous at the same time. During masturbation it's not so apparent as it is with the greater stresses of intercourse. And oral is easily 200% better; I have a very hard time controlling myself when I'm getting blown or having theremains of my frenelum licked.
Of course, as time goes by, the ring of raised scar tissue is gradually giving way to the far more pleasing smooth line of demarcation, and I love it.
As for guys who have seen me both ways, they love it. Except for my ex-boyfriend who was a circ-hater and was pissed off that it was done to him. He cried when he saw it. But he did have to admit that I was better in bed. :)
The TaraKlamp is something I'd like to try to get myself tightened up a little more. I love the Doc's work- and I'll do anything to keep it- I think it'll be neat to have two circumcision scars and a lot tighter shaft skin. The Doc was looking out for me: I'll tell you right now, though- when the Doc says "That's as much as I'm taking off", slip another 1/2" to 3/4" into the clamp. You will stretch it back whether you want to or not. It's the reverse of jeans, I suppose, which shrink with their first washing: this stretches quite a bit in the first year. Get it a little tighter than you think is perfect, you'll grow into it.
As for the clamp of choice, I love the Gomco. It's beautiful. The risk with the TaraKlamp is that since healing would have to occur with the bell in place, removing the frenulum during a TaraKlamp circ might be a little dangerous. With the Gomco clamp, the crushed ring is preserved and everything distal to it is removed.
But, on the pro side, the TaraKlamp leaves a closed wound; the Gomco clamp requires
stitches- not fun when they're removed. I had silk, which the Doc said would result in
less scarring as opposed to the self-dissolving which might have left me with little
railroad tracks as well as a minor irritation for a few weeks while they dissolve.
