Icon Content Advisory: This page includes images of a child patient. The Sheldon Clamp was only ever made in child sizes, therefore it is not possible for us to illustrate its use with reference to an adult patient.

The Sheldon Clamp, intended only for infant circumcision, latched shut thus crushing the blood vessels within the prepuce. Care was needed by the operator to ensure that the glans did not become trapped in the clamp. Excision followed after a few minutes.

The design made no attempt to align the cut with the angle of the coronal rim of the glans. It appears not to offer any significant advantage over the forceps-guided technique.
